E Cultura is a program sponsored and financed by the Mayorship of Medellin.  It intends to create an entrepreneurship culture in the city that drives to the development of new companies responding to the market and the regional production needs.  Cultura E is also defined as the ability of a society to transform knowledge into a productive activity.

This program is intended to promote the development of the economy in the city through the creation of innovative and sustainable business; its main objective is to change the decreasing economic behavior lived by the city during recent years; behavior that might be explained by the following aspects:

• Deceleration of the economical rhythm in the region because of the deindustrialization lived in Antioquia during the earliest 80s. (See graph 1)

• The last situation brought a new order where small business generated most of the employments in the city. (See graph 2)

• The business density index, which is calculated by the quantity of companies divided by the population in certain territory,  shows that Medellin  is behind similar cities (See  graph 3).

Now days, E Cultura has become one of the most important initiatives in the city and includes several programs such as: Banco de las Oportunidades (Bank of the Opportunities), Centro de Desarrollo Empresarial Zonal – Cedezo (Zonal enterprise development center), Red de Microcrédito(Microcredit Network), and Medellín mi Empresa (Medellin my Company).

E Cultura encourages to all men and women of Medellin, who wish to consolidate new business ideas or those who already have an enterprise and need support, to become part of the program and take advantage of all its benefits.
